The Independent National Electoral Commission has said its portal would be open for online accreditation of journalists and media organisations interested in covering the Edo State governorship election.
In a notice today, the commission said its portal would open on Monday, July 8, and close on September 5, urging media organizations to ensure they register their reporters during the timeframe provided.
The notice follows a judgement by a Federal High Court, Abuja, which nullified the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which produced Asue Ighodalo, for failing to meet the requirements of the Electoral Act 2022, guidelines for the conduct of the poll, as well as party’s constitution.
Reacting to the judgement, the national legal adviser of the peoples democratic party Adeyemi Ajibade said his party is confident that it will participate in the September 21 election, with Ighodalo as its valid candidate.
