The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, says the current capacity of the Nigerian police force is not even to handle the weight of challenges in different parts of the nation, calling for a need to double the manpower strength of the Nigeria Police Force in the country.

Egbetokun said this while addressing officers of the Kwara State Police Command in Ilorin, stating that President Bola Tinubu has recently given approval for an increase in yearly recruitment, which he said will be gradual and consistent.

The IGP also promised that his administration would look into the welfare of police officers, adding that he is aware of the poor working condition of officers.

He also shared the new vision of the police, which he said is to have a professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law compliant, citizen-friendly police force that will support the agenda of the government on all fronts.
