The acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged politicians and electorates in Kogi State to allow the police and sister security agencies deployed to the state for Saturday’s governorship election do their jobs without being subjected to blackmail.

Egbedokun represented by the state Police Commissioner, Bertrand Onuoha said this today in Lokoja at the stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Independent Electoral Commission, urging the politicians to play the game according to the Constitution, to avoid heating the polity before, during and after the election.

According to Onuoha, the practice of political blackmail during elections, to drag security outfits into political feuds should end, stating that security personnel are out to protect lives and properties and to ensure a smooth election process.

The police officer insisted that election will come and go but actions and reactions during the election will leave an indelible mark.
