Former President Goodluck Jonathan has advocated a review of Nigerian electoral system, stating that the premise of off-cycle elections should be re-examined to maintain a uniformity in Nigeria’s election as obtainable in advanced democracies.

Jonathan said this today after casting his vote in the governorship poll at Ward 13, Polling Unit 39, at Otuoke in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, appealing to the national assembly make laws that will prohibit off-cycle elections which he said may destabilize Nigeria’s political calendar.

According to him, Nigerian almost ran into an off-cycle presidential election in 2007, which he said would have been catastrophic for the political scene, noting that the government needs to consider the peculiarity of the nation and its democratic reality in implementing policies.
