Following the recent devastating impacts of flood across Borno and Zamfara states, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency says plans are underway to construct five buffer dams to address flooding caused by water releases from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam.

NIHSA Director-General, Umar Mohammed represented by NIHSA’s Director of Operations, Femi Bejide revealed this on Thursday during a Television Interview while urging residents in flood-prone areas in Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Rivers to evacuate as the annual Lagdo Dam water release is expected soon

Bejide also state stated that a report has been submitted to the Presidency recommending de-silting of some Nigerian dams and expansion of tributaries of Rivers Niger and Benue.

Bejide added that the project would be put in place within two to three years.
