The European Union is holding a previously unannounced meeting today in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, in a bid to signal continuous support for Ukraine as it battles against Russia’s invasion and strives to accelerate the process of becoming a member of the bloc.
Foreign ministers from the 27 member states of the European Union were invited to the gathering in Kyiv, the first such meeting of the bloc outside its borders, the bloc’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell said the meeting is a landmark event that will change the face of international relations.
Earlier, Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba described the meeting as a confidence boost for Ukraine, while stating that all forms of support or gesture that suggest such from the west and it allies are highly appreciated.
The meeting would be an informal one where ministers would brainstorm about the war and the ways in which the West can support Ukraine.
