An explosion of unknown origin this evening rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, plunging the city into pandemonium.
Residents of Bodija, Sango, and neighboring communities reported feeling the blast’s impact while distressed witnesses took to social media pleading for emergency assistance.
Responding to the incident, Oyo State Commissioner for Information Dotun Oyelade described the blast as “uncommon.”
He confirmed that Governor Seyi Makinde has deployed all security and emergency response chiefs, including police, military, and firefighters, to contain the situation.
The cause of the detonation remains unclear.
However, Commissioner Oyelade assured Ibadan residents that the governor has mobilized maximum efforts for rescue operations.
