The House of Representatives has called for the establishment of a special joint security task force to bolster existing security efforts against the escalating attacks by bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements in communities within the Shiroro, Rafi, and Munya federal constituency of Niger State.
The call followed a motion by Rep. Ismaila Musa Modibbo during Wednesday’s Plenary session.
Rep. Modibbo said communities in the constituency had endured frequent attacks, with people falling victim to kidnappings, killings and property destruction at the hands of marauding criminals.
He cited numerous incidents over recent months, including attacks on villages in Shiroro, Rafi and Munya local government areas.
These attacks, he said, have led to casualties among civilians, military personnel and vigilantes, exacerbating tensions and prompting displacement of residents from their homes.
He therefore stressed the need for an urgent, comprehensive security response, including the establishment of a special joint security taskforce supported by air surveillance and ground troops.
