The Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule has issued a 7-day ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to respect the rule of law and re-present the 2024 budget to the House.

In a statement after a sitting today, a member of the house, Enemi George stated that the budget presentation before the Edison Ehie led assembly was not in accordance with constitution, insisting that the present assembly is the legally recognised law-making arm of the state.

Although Fubara had presented an appropriation bill of about N800 billion for the 2024 Fiscal year to the Edison Ehie, George said the court ruling has nullified all action taken under that arrangement, including appointments of commissioners and local government caretaker committee.

Meanwhile, the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led assembly loyal to Governor Fubara held a parallel sitting wherein a commissioner nominee was screened and confirmed for possible swearing.
