The Senate has speedily passed the National Minimum Wage Act 2019 (Amendment Bill), transmitted by President Bola Tinubu, for review and approval, to reduce the time for periodic review of the national minimum wage from five years to three years.

The Senate passed the bill after a unanimous vote following a clause consideration in the Committee of the Whole, after which a Police Act (Amendment) Bill 2024 seeking to amend the Police Act of 2020 to allow the Inspector General of Police to complete his tenure as stipulated in the appointment letter was also passed.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has apologized to Senator Natasha Akpoti for his “Nightclub” comment, stating that his choice of words did not represent his intention, while reiterating his commitment to the guidelines of the hallowed chamber.
