The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has dismissed a suit filed by the family of the late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, to challenge the revocation of their property situated within the Maitama highbrow district of Abuja, by the Federal Government.

The suit led by the wife of the late military leader, Hajia Maryam Abacha and her eldest surviving son, Mohammed had among other things, prayed the court to nullify and set aside the purported revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy of the property of the late General Sani Abacha located in the Maitama District.

Justice Peter Lifu in his judgement agreed with the defendants that the suit had become statute barred as at the time it was filed in 2015 and that the plaintiffs, lacks the locus standi to maintain the action.

The plaintiffs, in their statement of claimed that the then Minister of the FCT, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, had instructed them to submit the Certificate of Occupancy in their possession for re-certification but instead received a letter that the Certificate of Occupancy had been revoked without any reason adduced in the letter that conveyed the information.
