President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria following her confirmation by the Nigerian Senate last week.
The ceremony which took place at the Council Chamber of the State House had in attendance Vice President Kashim Shettima, President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, among others.
Kekere-Ekun took the oath of office and signed the oath register at the Council Chamber of the State House, succeeding Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who assumed office on 27 June 2022 and bowed out on 22 August 2024, upon attaining the retirement age of 70 years.
Justice Kekere-Ekun becomes the 23rd Chief Justice of the country and the second woman to hold the position, the first being Justice Alooma Mukhtar.
