Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York as President Bola Tinubu has opted not to attend.

A Statement by Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga said the President chose to focus on domestic issues, particularly in light of recent devastating floods that happened when he was away in China and the United Kingdom

Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, attend sideline events, and hold bilateral meetings during the assembly.

The high-level General Debate, themed “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations,” is scheduled from September 24 to 28, 2024.
