Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, says free, fair and credible election must remain the hallmark of democracy, stating that the last off-cycle elections showed that the people will continue to trust democracy if their voices are heard and their desires respected.

Uzodimma said this while receiving his certificate of return in Owerri, the state capital, following last Saturday’s governorship election.

According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has delivered in its constitutional mandate, to conduct a credible poll that reflects the yearnings of the people, while promising to enhance equity and transparency in his second tenure.

The governor who swept all the 27 local government areas in the state, extended hands of fellowship to other political parties, noting that the growth and development of the state is beyond party affiliations and selfish interests.

The state Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Professor Abayomi Fashina, declared Uzodimma re-elected on Sunday morning after over eight hours of collation of local government area (LGA) results.
